Bulderbos (Roaring Forest)

A forest near Schiphol airport was bought by the Environment Defence organization in 1994, to prevent the extension of Schiphol with a fifth landing strip.

The 4000 trees were sold to 460 individuals. This way the forest has hundreds of owners. The government has to get in contact with every single one of them before the forest can be removed.

In september 2001 Schiphol was permitted to expropriate the forest. On january 2nd, 2002 the last activists left the area. The Environment Defence appealed against the decision, but it is not likely that the fifth landing strip can be stopped any longer.
