BAM foundation

BAM is a foundation that fights acoustical pollution of the environment. They want to ban all unwanted sound, such as music in shops and other public areas.

BAM does not want to spoil someone's personal enjoyment of TV, radio, video or CD, but the use of these media in public spaces must be reconsidered, because people complain of stress and even ear damage. BAM is making a list of "silent shops" where background music is banned.

On the 12th of April 2000 more than 25 countries joined in the Fifth International Silence Awarenessday. In Great Britain is working on a law against background music in public buildings. Thanks to the English sister organisation of BAM, Pipe Down, background music is banned at Gatwick Airport.
