Dead silent

In the very north of Holland there is a small village named Doodstil. ("Doodstil" means "dead silent").

Tourists make pictures of this exclusive sign. In 1999 the advertisements company Unicom used the sign: "Choose us if you do not want silence to fall around your company". In 2000 telecom company Ben did the same: "Even in the most quiet corners we have coverage." The judge decided that Ben did not steal the idea, so the little war about copyrights was lost by Unicom.

In fact the name Doodstil is corruption of the words "Doede's Tille" ("the bridge of Doede"), named after the farmer who initiated the building of a bridge here.
