The Site of Silence is a website about Silence (in Dutch it is "stilte"). Silence is impossible if there is no sound. We know silence because we know sound. The lack of sound is silence.

Noise is unwanted sound. The more sound there is, the more we look forward to silence. Environment experts have predicted that in the 21st century we will bear a shortage of water and silence.

Silence is scarce.

More and more silence is drowned out by sound. Organizations and individual silence-lovers try to fight unnecessary sound as much as possible. In this section of the Site of Silence you read all about Wanted Silence.
